The honest band is $3 to $15 per square foot. That is a five-fold spread and it is the reason quotes feel impossible to compare. A thin acrylic spray coat and a stamped concrete overlay are both called “resurfacing” by the people selling them, and one costs four times the other.

Our deck is 680 square feet. I got three quotes over two weeks in April: $2,850 for a sprayed acrylic texture, $5,600 for a stamped overlay, and $19,000 to demo the slab and pour a new one with travertine on top. Same square footage. Same three guys standing on the same flaking concrete.

Two rows deserve a flag. Light colors reflect solar energy instead of storing it, and the texture holds less material against your foot at any given moment. The EPA covers the same physics in its guidance on using cool pavements to reduce heat islands, and it scales right down to a backyard: a light reflective surface runs meaningfully cooler than dark concrete in identical sun.

More than I expected, and less than the product marketing implies.

You can pressure wash, strip old sealer, fill hairline cracks with a flexible concrete caulk, and roll on a stain and sealer. That is a real weekend, it runs $250 to $700 in materials on a 700 foot deck, and if your concrete is structurally fine but tired-looking it may be all you need. I did exactly this to our side path to practice before anyone touched the pool deck. Good decision. My first pass with the sealer was too thick and it turned milky in two spots, and I would much rather have learned that on the path.

What I would not DIY is any sprayed texture or overlay. Those go down in a working time measured in minutes, they need a hopper gun and a consistent hand, and the seams show forever if you stop in the wrong place. Look at rows two and four against each other.
